Some Strike J Pistons due to the manufacturing process can have excess material on the inside of the piston in a localised area. The Strike Factory apply some minor grinding to ensure no material dislodges when these pistons are being used for racing. This is allowable, but must be done only by the Strike Factory. X30 Ignition update
1. IAME SPA Selettra Digital-K Ignition System – Key type Ignition, or PVL 690/ Selettra Digital S Ignition may be used 2. The woodruff ignition rotor key must be retained and may not be modified. 3. Spark plug cap must incorporate a minimum of a 5kohm resister. 4. The only Selettra Key type ignition module to be used is the green module marked with AKA20L. 5. Please be reminded of what AIDKA helmet requirements are. It is the Driver/Parent/Guardian’s responsibility to make sure the helmet complies with our rules. Helmets a) Must be in sound condition, fitted and worn as per the manufacturer’s instructions b) Must have a date of manufacture, maximum age less than 10 years from this date c) Must be Full Face, and bear a label indicating they comply with one of the following standards: (i) AS/NZS 1698 (ii) ECE 22.05 (iii) Snell SA2010, SAH2010, SA2015, M2010, M2015, K2010, K2015 (iv) Snell-FIA CMR2007, CMS2007, CMR2016, CMS2016 (v) SFI 24.1, 31.1, 31.1A, 32.2A (vi) FIA-8860, FIA-8859 d) Must be fitted with either a shatterproof visor as supplied by the manufacturer or googles. Tear-offs, Roll-ons or similar must be used to maintain good vision, and must have a device to retain them to the helmet when used (i.e. rubber grommet or zip-tie) Visors must be closed whilst the kart is under power within the race arena. e) Cameras are not permitted to be mounted on helmets. f) Must be scrutineered, with an AIDKA approval decal applied, and details recorded into the user’s logbook before used For helmets that comply with UN ECE 22.05, the helmet must bear a label displaying an international approval mark. Look for a label sewn into the retention system of the helmet. The mark is in a form of a circle surrounding the letter ‘E’, followed by the distinguishing number of the country in which the testing and certification was approved. The number on the right of the ‘E’, therefore, may vary from one model of helmet to another (e.g. 2=France, 3=Italy). The mark must also have information concerning the actual standard with which it applies (i.e. 05 is the ECE 22.05 standard and is followed by the approval number issued in the respective country), the type of helmet (i.e. P is ‘protective’ and J signifies ‘Jet’ style open face approval) and its production serial number. SEC barrel clarification
If you are going to use a SEC barrel on a KTS, it must be machined to the same specs as the SD barrel for the fitting of the Exhaust Gasket and Head Gasket. No other SEC components are eligible to be used. 12th Dec 2019
Alternative X30 Upgrade components – Eff Feb 2020
At the 15th November 2019 AIDKA council meeting the Club’s Voted 10:3 to allow the introduction of the alternative X30 components from February 2020 AIDKA conducted both Dyno and Track Testing on these components and presented this information to the council before the clubs made their decision. Testing was conducted by two drivers at two different tracks. Similar findings were found by both drivers. The first test was performed in race conditions while the second test was a one on one test, new vs old components. TEST RESULTS The results can be summarized as follows: Tillotson HW-27A carby with larger reed block (29mm instead of 28mm) felt strong but in comparison to the old Tryton carby, lacked bottom end power. The New Style Pipe gave us the reverse result with increased bottom end power out of the tight corners of the track. Without changing anything like gearing, it still maintained similar mid-range and bottom end power compared to the old pipe. The PVL ignition provided no difference in performance. When both the Tillotson HW-27A carby and New style muffler were used together there was negligible difference between the new pipe/carby and the old pipe carby combination. For this reason, it was proposed that either new or old pipe/carby combinations could be used, but not a combination of the two. Dyno testing did show an increase in power in the lower power range but it has not shown on the track. This may be put down to dirt karts not using the lower end power range as offer as bitumen karts do. THE NEW RULE FOR 2020 The clubs voted to allow the following: Either combinations of the following carby & pipe Tryton Carby & 2017 Header pipe/ Exhaust combination or Tillotson HW-27A carby & one-piece exhaust Either ignition can be used with each carby/pipe combination The use of the new wider radiator is also allowed to be used with any of the AIDKA approved engines WHY THE CHANGE? This change was due to IAME changing the components available on new engines. Karting Australia introduced the carby and pipe at the beginning of 2018 and the ignition at the start of 2019. IAME...
